Volunteers Needed! Young Eagles Rally on May 18 at Paine Field

Chapter 84 will be hosting a Young Eagles Rally at Paine Field on May 18th. We expect to fly 300 Young Eagles, so we will need about 30 pilots and at least 12 ground volunteers. Pilots must be EAA members, but ground volunteers can be anyone–spouses, teens, college students, friends, etc. Even an hour or two of volunteering on the ground will help!

Propeller, a PAE FBO, will provide a $1.25/gallon discount for that day to all YE pilots. This is a huge discount and will help our volunteers. We’ll provide more info at the pilot’s briefing, but basically the fuel truck comes to you, and you get the discount! Plus some free food, probably a T-shirt, and other recognition.

To volunteer contact our EAA 84 Young Eagles Coordinator, Jon Smith, at youngeagles@eaa84.org

April 9 Meeting Recap

Our April speaker was Lawrence Doan, owner and designer of Whistle Pig Toys. Lawrence is a UW grad in Aeronautical Engineering with years of experience in aviation and competitive glider competition. Lawrence, along with his daughter, decided to start a boutique toy company selling balsa gliders that he has designed. Wrapped up in all of this fun is a great learning experience for both youth and adults including construction techniques, weight and balance and trimming for flight characteristics. Lawrence gave a very interesting talk about the details of the engineering process involved in the design of his gliders. Currently Whistle Pig Toys has almost a dozen different designs available for purchase and more coming. Go to whistlepigtoys.com to check them out.
